Aspers make $500K donation to family resource centres
A $500,000 donation from the Asper Foundation will go a long way to supporting 24 family resource centres around Winnipeg.
The large donation is a gift to the For Every Family initiative and will be used to increase hours and programming for children and families through the United Way-supported FRCs.
âThis investment supports the well-being of children and families in Winnipeg who are struggling with the impacts of poverty,â said foundation chair David Asper in a release on Friday. âThe focus on neighbourhood-based programs and services close to home, where children and families can access them more readily, will help make families, and therefore our community, stronger.
The foundation said much has been accomplished in the first year of the FEF. The 24 centres will be open an additional 20,000 hours this year, with providing over 7,000 hours of new programming, including fin ancial literacy, and are sharing resources and ideas with one another.
âItâs essential to our well-being,â said Signe Knutson, who said she utilizes an FRC for respite daycare and basic needs such as food and cloth. âIâm a single mom with three boys. It raises the quality of life.â
The province said it will match private sector donations to the FEF initiative up to $7.5M over six years. So far, $4 million has been raised through various donors.Sumber: Google News | Liputan 24 Fef
